Span | Big Span Paper airplane

At least once in our lifetime, we all must’ve tried a paper plane right? But during my childhood, most of the planes I made just ended up crashing their nose to the ground. Funny! and very relatable to your experiences? Actually, Paper planes are indeed engineering designs which should satisfy all physical forces acting on its body like Aerodynamic forces, Gravity, Lift to weight ratio and so on… Wanna know how? Crashing so many planes nose does teach you that over time. Lets, hop in for BIG SPAN paper airplane now…

Two minutes for Noodles! isn’t it? Three minutes for Paper planes! It’s that simple with LIFTNDRIFT*

Supplies Required:

  • A4 Sheet of Paper or a Foolscap Paper with 70-90 GSM
  • Ruler or Flat thick object to flatten the folded edges to make a strong crease.

Step 1:

  • Keep the Paper horizontally — on the table
  • Fold it into the half from right to left and unfold to make a proper straight centre crease
  • Now, bring the right side and left side corners to the centre crease to match
  • Note: Don’t cross the centre line.

Step 2:

  • Make a Valley fold from dot to dot and UNFOLD, (valley fold is folding your paper from one point to another in front direction)

Step 3:

  • Now again some same kind of boring but useful steps to follow for a big span paper plane.
  • Fold again dot to dot

Step 4:

  • It is getting crazy now! Again dot to dot as shown in the Fig.4

Step 5:

  • Valley fold the top section to the crease.
  • Please refer the picture 5, if you’re confused, buddy!

Paper plane facts: “As per Paper plane association, the planes which are launched in space doesn’t fly but float and travel in a straight line”

Step 6:

  • Mountain fold the paper plane in half.
  • Check whether two sections of the big span paper plane you made is symmetrical.

Step 7:

  • Now fold the wings mate, Exactly you should fold at the dotted line which is parallel to the bottom edge.
  • The distance on the crease could somewhere approximate to the distance showed in Fig.7

Step 8:

  • You know what? It’s Fly time mate!
  • Take this real chance to cover your entire garden with this plane!

Span fying technique:

Launch it smoothly with maximum 30 – 40 degrees in angle, if it fails, tweak the tail wing slightly up and try again.
Try different angles and forces now! Wow, That’s how one learns properly with more trying and flying. Kudos!
