SQUADRON

Things that fly in the air has a lot of ways to conquer the space, Some are lighter than air, Some of them are heavier than air. Paper kites, Dandelion seeds are some of the examples for lighter than air which is carried by wind easily. But the Jet aircraft which carries payloads are heavier than air flies by using Engines. The other techniques are using hot air or gas pushed from a nozzle in rockets and missiles. Flapping technique is one of the other method used by Birds and bees. Gliding is the action of big surveillance sailplanes or Paper airplanes. Learn the gliding principle by making Squadron using step by step illustrated instructions from Liftndrift

Two minutes for Noodles! isn’t it? Three minutes for Paper planes! It’s that simple with liftndrift*

Supplies Required:

  • A4 Sheet of Paper or a Foolscap Paper with 70-90 GSM
  • Ruler or Flat thick object to flatten the folded edges to make a strong crease.

Step 1:

  • Keep the A4 sheet of paper in Landscape orientation and fold them from top to bottom equally as shown in Fig.1
  • UNFOLD them once done.

Step 2:

  • Bring the Top left and Bottom left edges to the centre line
  • Make sure the fold hits the right-hand up and down edges sharp and crisp as shown in the Fig.2 (Check the dotted lines travel)

Step 3:

  • Valley fold the left hand section with the dotted lines as the centre as shown in Fig.3

Step 4:

  • With the same thickness of the previous fold in Fig.3, Roll and fold 6 times as shown in Fig.4

Step 5:

  • Now, Mountain fold the paper airplane into half as shown in Fig.5

Step 6:

  • Fold-down the wings with the fuselage length of about 1 inch from the bottom
  • Do the same for both sides
  • Once done, fold the winglets on edges of the wings (compare Fig.6 and Fig.7)

Step 7:

  • Check for the their dihedral angle – ‘Y’ shaped to perform better
  • Try more planes with Liftndrift
  • Now, its flytime for Squadron! Go on!

Squadron flying technique:

  • Hold the Plane behind the centre of the plane’s gravity centre
  • Keep your left foot slightly forward and launch it in 30 – 40 degrees angle, throw it steadily with a medium force. If it fails, tweak the tail wing slightly up and try again.
  • Try different angles and forces now! Wow, That’s how one learns properly with more trying and flying. Kudos!
