Paper Folding types | Paper Plane folding explained!

The very important step for any learning journey is knowing the basics well and good. Paper airplane folding have n number of folding types where, Mountain fold, Valley fold, sink fold, Roll-in fold, zig-zag fold, Squash fold, Push-in fold are some of the basic folding types. Generally, whoever has made some starter paper airplanes they must have used valley fold unknowingly. Let’s have a look into the types of paper airplane foldings that we are about to use in our paper planes.

CREASE FOLD & UNFOLD

  • Whereas Crease fold and unfold is essential for all of your paper airplane.
  • Making a centre crease by folding the paper equally in horizontal, vertical or diagonal is called crease fold’
  • Unfold it to open the paper and proceed for the next picture
  • Look at the picture below and notice how the arrows are directing.

MOUNTAIN PAPER FOLDING:

  • Mountain fold is basically folding the paper equally in the reverse direction. The reason it is called a mountain fold is because of this look. Have a look at the below image, the after folding picture looks like a tent (or) Mountain.

VALLEY FOLD

  • If you flip over the paper that will look like a “V” that is called Valley fold.
  • Basically valley fold is that folding paper in inward direction just like the picture below.
  • Whether you made a valley fold or reverse fold in a paper airplane flipping the paper will give you the opposite of them.

Paper folding – Mountain and valley:

  • Valley fold is reverse of Mountain fold and vice versa.
  • Make Nakamura dart to understand how valley and mountain fold works.

SINK FOLD

  • Third, in the line Sink fold is basically dipping the nose into paper and hiding it for later use or no use.
  • Moreover crushing the paper while making the paper airplane is not what we expect. Don’t crush the paper while sink folding.

SQUASH FOLD

  • Look at the image below, the diagonal dotted line is pulled up and pushed on the right-hand side to make a fold, this is called Squash fold.

  • In a way, Squash fold and Push-in fold are way similar but, Squash and Push-in fold are from the same category but different types.
  • Look at the picture below the Nose above the crease is pushed inside and folded to make Push-in fold

PUSH-IN FOLD

ROLL IN FOLD

  • In this case, you are folding the paper repeatedly with the same length and in the same direction. This is called Roll-in fold.

ZIG-ZAG FOLD

  • Zig-zag fold is basically you fold the paper with the same or different length but in different directions consecutively.

FLIP (or) TURN OVER

  • Flip or turn over is that, in some part of the paper airplane instructions you will get these steps. At this instant, you have to turn the section to the opposite side.
  • Have a look at the picture below to understand how this works.
