Western Wind

There is n number of plane designs but what makes them fly? For example, Me and my friend Bruce Wayne is making a plane just by taking a piece of paper doing a mountain fold and then crushing it, throwing it as long as possible. What my friend Bruce will say? He wouldn’t accept this as a Paper plane! Why? Because paper planes cut through the air with their surface and produce LIFT and they do not produce much of a drag. This crushed paper produces so much of a DRAG that makes the paper slow down after some point. So, You wanna make some LIFT for now? Let’s fold the western wind to know it!

Two minutes for Noodles! isn’t it? Three minutes for Paper planes! It’s that simple with liftndrift*

Supplies Required:

  • A4 Sheet of Paper or a Foolscap Paper with 70-90 GSM
  • Ruler or Flat thick object to flatten the folded edges to make a strong crease.

Step 1:

  • First of all, fold the paper top to bottom equally to make the centre crease
  • Now, bring the bottom left corner to the centre line as shown in the Fig.1 yellow line
  • Fold it properly to make a good crease

Step 2:

  • Similarly like Step 1, Bring the top left corner to the center crease as the yellow line directs you with dotted line as the center
  • Refer Fig.2

Step 3:

  • Keep the paper in any orientation as like you wish but understand the steps in this orientation
  • Now fold the top and lower corner yellow dots to the centre yellow dot as shown in the Fig.3
  • Make a firm crease in every step

Step 4:

  • Bring the Nose (Yellow dot) to the dot where we began
  • Refer Fig.4 for clarifying your doubt on this step

Step 5:

  • Now fold the western plane into half in the direction as shown in the Fig.5 along the center crease

Step 6:

  • Take the Folded edge of the plane, and mountain fold it to the top to make the wing
  • Make sure the wing is bigger than the Fuselage (i.e. Fuselage is the Holding part of the Paper plane)
  • Do the same step for the other side and ensure both sides are symmetrical.

Step 7:

  • Now, Unfold the wings and lift them slightly upside like the Front View.
  • A great western wind plane is ready for the evening party! It does its duty well!

Make More! Fly More with LIFTNDRIFT

Western wind flying technique:

  • Hold the Plane behind the centre of the plane’s gravity centre
  • Keep your left foot slightly forward and launch it in 30 – 40 degrees angle, throw it steadily with a medium force. If it fails, tweak the tail wing slightly up and try again.
  • Try different angles and forces now! Wow, That’s how one learns properly with more trying and flying. Kudos!
